The Lagoa das Sete Cidades is located at the top of the Seven Cities Caldera, in the parish of Sete Cidades, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. The caldera was formed by successive collapses of stones and boulders, and has an area of approximately 4.3 km, maximum depth of 29 meters. It is one of the largest collapsed calderas in the world. Its banks have mostly very steep and green slopes. It is characterized by the dual color of its waters, being divided by a shallow channel, crossed by a low bridge that separates on one side a green toned water mirror (Lagoa Verde) and, on the other side, a blue toned mirror (Lagoa Azul).
