Parish Church of São Mateus (Madalena), located in the homonymous parish, in the municipality of Madalena, is situated at the top of the island of Pico, close to the sea. The church of São Mateus is known for its majestic style and for its precious historical pieces.

Elevated to the category of Diocesan Sanctuary in 1962, the church stands out for its three naves sustained by heavy pilasters and for a detailed oil painting representing an apostle on each one of them. The ceiling of the main chapel is also painted in fresco.
