The history of this church dates back to the 17th century, and it was the Andrade family who donated the land to the Discalced Carmelites. They were forced to carry out works to create what is now recognized as one of the main sites in the city. Years later this space was expanded, restructured and works of more than 200 years were carried out in this monument.
A visit to the Church of São João Evangelista / Igreja Carmelita is an unforgettable experience: walking through its nave, seeing the sculptures and paintings with golden and historical details, and being surprised by the retable on the level of detail and finishing.
