The Church of Santo Amaro, located in the parish of the same name, in the municipality of São Roque do Pico, on the Pico Island, is a religious building of the Portuguese Catholic denomination. It dates back to the 18th century, although the precise date of its construction is still not known.

In the year 1723, there were already documents that in some way or another referred to the temple dedicated to the miracle worker Santo Amaro, and, a few years later, it was rebuilt following a quite simple shape, with a small door on the façade and, above it, a main door flanked by two reduced windows in the shape of an oculus, topped by a carved triangular stone cord.

However, over time and faced with some earthquakes, the small temple was gradually ruined until, in 1951, the respective vicar, Father José Idalmiro Ferreira, carried out restoration and reconstruction work. Thus, the new church gained an interior with a good bench and restorations in the various altarpieces.

Located on the Travessa do Passal, this church not only offers a religious and cultural experience, but also a landscape one. By car, you can access one of the most beautiful spots near the sea, enjoying also a privileged view of the village and the ocean.
