As the first wine estate in the Douro to open its wine tourism, Quinta Nova is recognized as one of the most prestigious wine tourism destinations in Portugal.

The estate offers an authentic experience in a traditional Portuguese manor house, surrounded by stunning landscapes of the Douro Valley. This historical property, with origins dating back to 1764, maintains the charm and atmosphere of a grand family home, allowing guests a true immersion into the wine culture and natural beauty of the region.

Accommodation and Services

Visitors have the opportunity to stay in one of the 11 luxurious rooms of Quinta, each offering spectacular views of the century-old vineyards. The stay includes access to sophisticated and comfortable common areas, as well as gardens with a swimming pool and a picturesque chapel. Additionally, guests can enjoy a walk along the marked trails on the property, spanning eight kilometers, providing an authentic experience of the spirit of the Douro.

Wine Experience

In the wine aspect, Quinta Nova is dedicated to producing extraordinary wines, respecting the natural maturation of grapes in each of its 41 traditional parcels. The winery and barrel room are open for visitation, where visitors can learn about the production processes and taste Quinta's wines, accompanied by panoramic views of the Douro. Visitors can also explore the Fernanda Ramos Amorim Museum, which offers a journey through the wine history of the region.

Gastronomy

For those who wish to experience local cuisine, the Terraçu's restaurant at Quinta Nova offers tasty dishes and excellent service, complementing the wine tourism experience with the region's cuisine.

Quinta Nova is accessible by car, train, and boat, with options to facilitate visitors' arrival to this charming destination. For wine, history, and nature lovers, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is a must-visit destination in the heart of the Douro Valley.

Tradition and Innovation in Winemaking

Exactly 250 years ago, Quinta Nova's traditional winery, owned by the Amorim Group, harvested its first grapes. This is undoubtedly one of the oldest wineries in the Douro region, producing Port wine for Quinta and many other parcels of farmers and neighboring estates, given its large size.

Quinta Nova invests 2% of its revenue biennially in modernizing its wineries. One of the features of the winery is the use of a pneumatic press commonly used in Champagne, which presses the whole cluster, always in the absence of oxygen. It is worth noting the existence of a mechanized lagar, which exists in few wineries in Portugal and the world. This equipment is distinctive because it does not submerge the grape skin but rather treads on it, replacing the human foot.

Quinta Nova also has a traditional mini winery, called the "Wine Workshop," which has stainless steel tanks and wooden vats of 4 tons and 2 tons, all with temperature control. According to Luisa Amorim, experiments and research are carried out in this workshop, in vinifications of 2000L and 3000L.

What to Visit in Sabrosa

Sabrosa, the municipality where Quinta Nova is located, offers much more than just wine experiences. Rich in history and culture, the municipality is home to several monuments and places of interest. One of the highlights is the Casa de Miguel Torga, a famous Portuguese writer, which now functions as a museum dedicated to his life and work. Additionally, the natural landscape of Sabrosa is breathtaking, with opportunities for hiking and walks along the Douro River.

For history enthusiasts, the historic center of Sabrosa offers a charming view of traditional Portuguese architecture. The region is also known for its local products, including olive oil and wine, with several estates open for visits and tastings.
