The Bitetos River Beach is a true aquatic paradise situated in an area where the river's waters form a small bay, naturally warming the water and providing a refreshing and welcoming environment for visitors.
In addition to the stunning natural scenery, the beach offers a bar with a charming terrace, where visitors can enjoy relaxing moments while contemplating the surrounding landscape.
The history of Bitetos River Beach dates back to ancient times when it was a stopping point for the iconic "rabelo" boats used to transport Port wine barrels along the Douro River. Nowadays, the riverside of the beach hosts thrilling canoeing, water skiing, and even powerboating events.
In the year 2011, the beach was rightfully classified as an Accessible Beach, ensuring that all individuals can enjoy the unique environment it offers. Furthermore, the safety of swimmers is a priority, with the constant presence of two lifeguards and clearly marked boundaries of the bathing area.
This beach leaves no one behind, providing accessibility for people with reduced mobility through appropriate ramps. In addition to the mentioned facilities, there is also a parking lot, restroom facilities, showers, and waste separation bins, keeping the beach clean and pleasant for a day with family or friends.
Located on the right bank of the Douro River, the Bitetos River Beach has received recognition from the Portuguese Environment Agency, being awarded the title "Accessible Beach - Beach for All" and classified as an "Inland Bathing Water" of excellent quality.
Once a crucial stopping point for "rabelo" boats, the beach has transformed in recent years into an essential tourist spot, along with the quay, the marina, and the support bar.
In summary, the Bitetos River Beach offers a variety of activities, spacious sandy areas, shaded spots under trees, and a welcoming café. It's a place where nature and fun harmoniously blend, providing unforgettable moments by the waters of the Douro River.
