The Church of São Bartolomeu in Coimbra, located at Adro de Cima 10, has a history lost in time and lessons to be learned. The current location was built in the eighteenth century, although its location lies on ancient churches from the tenth and eleventh centuries. During the Islamic invasions of the twelfth century, the church was damaged, however it was restored. As a proof of its passage through time, a fragmentary capital was kept and reported in the Machado de Castro National Museum.
This church presents itself with a similar plan to the Church of Santiago, at the other end of Praça do Comércio. This magnificent old building is located in the center of the city, offering a magnificent view of the city, with easy access by car. The Church of São Bartolomeu, a place with a cauldron of history, is an unavoidable visit for any tourist interested in the culture of Coimbra.
