The Church of Santa Maria de Campanhã, also referred to as the Parish Church of Campanhã, was built in 1714, being linked to the construction of the Palácio do Freixo. The church has the particularity of being in the center of the city, offering a privileged view of the urban landscape.
This church was looted and almost destroyed on several occasions – 1809, 1832 and 1834 – and, therefore, it was abandoned. Fortunately, it was rehabilitated in the 19th and 20th centuries, undergoing important works of renovation and expansion in 1905.
